Elyse Trusell earned a B.A. in English and Spanish and M.Ed. at the University of St. Thomas, Houston. Her career in special education, spanning two decades, began with twice-exceptional students at Carnegie-Vanguard High School.

For sixteen years, she supported students with learning differences at The Joy School (TJS), a special education environment, serving students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, autism-spectrum, processing and language struggles, ADD/ADHD, and more.

At TJS she taught 3d-8th grade ELA for over a decade, designing curriculum to support the learning needs of students and preparing 8th graders for mainstreaming to high school, including providing one-on-one and small group remediation. She also served on the academic administrative team, overseeing tutoring programs and consulting with parents, teachers, and professionals to identify tutoring plans to promote student success.
